Reading for Fun

Recent examples of nerdiness at dawrighthouse:

**I was right - I nailed my first grad paper, thank you LORD.
**G has entered the world of social media (twitter) for the sole purpose of virtually hanging out with astronauts.
**First Willa Cather book down, three more to go, with a nice mixture of other American "modernist" authors.
**The ole sign language continues.  I probably sound just like an elementary student!  Which is perfectly appropriate.

And I have managed to read a whole book (just one!) outside of school work.  For Literary Society of course.  This month we were back to fiction and we read Colorado author Kent Haruf's latest book, Benediction.
Benediction by Kent Haruf
This is the story of the people living in the fictional small town of Holt, Colorado.  Dad Lewis is dying of cancer, and his family and friends are coming to terms with that, as well as with the daily challenges of small town life.  The writing is sparse, the style of dialogue is accurate (and intimate), the characters are nuanced, but overall the story is blah.  I don't recommend it, although his other books (such as Plainsong) have received so much praise that I would certainly read them.  Although well-written, this story just isn't engaging enough.

The food, on the other hand, was amazing.  As usual.

Underneath these veggies and shrimp is a pile of rice noodles slathered in homemade spicy peanut sauce.
We started with fondue and Prosecco.  It was so amazing that we haven't even picked a non-fiction book for next time.  Here's hoping I'll be able to work in more reading for fun.

TOMORROW IS FRIDAY.  THAT IS ALL.
