6 things, 6 months in

It's been (over) 6 months since I moved here.  I just realized that the other day.  I was marveling over the mysterious weather and it came to me that, why would I know what to expect?  I haven't even experienced all four seasons here yet.  Then I had to count how many months I've been here.

I love it and I count moving here as one of the best decisions we've ever made.

Here are 6 discoveries from the last 6 months.

1.  I can breathe!  Finally!

I don't know when it happened, but it did.  I can run on the treadmill, workout on the stationary bike, make endless walks back and forth to work, and still breathe.  Proof that we don't need oxygen after all.

2.  So, we are preparing to climb some mountains.

We are tired of admiring them from afar and are ready to get out in them.  We are shooting for some base hikes, then higher altitude ones over the coming weeks, and will hopefully do one or two 14'ers in July before the snow moves back in and we go to Hong Kong and Singapore.  (Not that the two are related; they just coincide nicely).

3.  Brunch is a thing, and I love it.

I may have mentioned this, oh once or twice before, but brunch is a very popular thing here.  We try to have brunch every weekend, if we can.  If it ever warms up, we will be able to walk to several places.  But who am I kidding?  A little blizzard is not going to keep me from enjoying some tasty food.

4.  I like the dry climate.

And consequently will probably always use my little olive oil trick at night.  I don't love the static electricity, or the occasional (debilitating) headache.  I don't love what it does to my hair, and don't love how I feel reptilian on the occasional day when I don't drink 55 gallons of water.  But that said, I don't miss the stifling humidity, or the crazy oily skin, or walking outside into a mist every day.

5.  People here like to eat, to drink, and to be outside.

That is G's observation and it's true.  And perhaps it does more than I can to explain why I feel like I fit in so well here.  People are laid back, they are (mostly) down to earth, they do not move at the speed of light, they are reflective and like to have a good time.  One of the things I like most about walking back and forth to work is that I pass a lot of street cafes, and no matter what time of day or night, people are sitting, laughing, drinking, talking.  They are not rushing to the next thing, blackberry in hand.  It's nice.

6.  My commute

I talk about it all the time but it bears repeating because life will not always be this way.  I love having the option to walk to work.  I love that when I drive, it only takes me a few minutes.  I love that my life does not consist of hours in the car each day.  G is taking one for the team in this area, because of the two of us, I have had the worst commutes in the past.  So I won't belabor the point because he is having the opposite experience these days.  :)

I feel like we are home.  So, so thankful for Denver.
