Practicing Scales

If you're wondering why G no longer posts his Monday doses of ridiculous, well, get in line.  I keep reminding him and he says he's all out of ideas.  I say that can't be right because if that's true, why does he still complain about all sorts of ridiculous things all the time?

????????

Anyhoo, I'm hoping he'll cave and create some more posts soon.  Until then, you're stuck with me.

Is that a snake I smell?
I petted a snake at one of tonight's tutoring sessions.  She's a cute little thing, but really cold and...sturdy-feeling.  Lucy would have an absolute fit if she knew, but hey, I gotta take the lovin' where I can get it.

Without going into too much detail, a lot of the work I do with the kiddos, both at school and in private tutoring, is with reading.  The importance of repetition and accuracy reminds me of all the years and years I spent practicing scales (on the trumpet).  It was so mind-numbingly repetitive and yet probably did more for my pitch, tone, and finger memory (to play the correct note configurations) than anything else.

Same goes with reading.  One of these days, these kiddos will be in college and I'm hoping that reading is a complete non-issue for them, that they'll be so good at it that it will be like breathing - something they don't even think of anymore.

And speaking of reading, we have LIT SOCIETY tomorrow night, thank God.  (1) Because I can't wait to eat the tasty food, duh, and (2) because this is the worst book we've read and it was my pick.  Can't wait to get it overwith.

Until tomorrow, peeps.  Monday is over!
