Life Is Better Out West

I want to whine about the hour that was stolen from me last night.  But I want it to stay light outside past 6:00 p.m. so I'll keep my mouth shut and enjoy the sunshine.

We got out and about again today - I do say, peeps, we just might be getting back into the swing of things!  We checked out Castlewood Canyon State Park, about 10-ish miles outside Castle Rock, CO (Southeast of Denver).

Not too shabby.

The trail was pretty dicey at first, completely covered in ice.  After sliding our way into the canyon, though, it got better.

There were a lot of people out and about with their dogs.  I haven't lived in CO long enough to have it etched into my brain that when the snow melts, the trails get extremely muddy.  Oh well, maybe by this time next year I'll remember.

The trail took us down into the canyon, along a creek bed and lots of boulders, then up the other side and along the gentle slope of a hill, overlooking some plains.

A view of lonely Pike's Peak in the distance.

One of our fave shots from the day:

Now it's time for some no-bake cookies and frantic book reading.  Where did my extra long weekend go?????
