Phase One - Complete

Phase One of the Library Transformation Project was to stain the crappy bay window wood a darker color.  While we were brainstorming about that, it occurred to us that we should "expose" the awesome ceiling beam that runs the length of the room.  It had been painted over to match the ceiling, but we think it is a beautiful feature and deserves some attention.

We considered doing this ourselves for about three and a half seconds.  Then we shared a good laugh and called a contractor.  The entire project was supposed to take one day, but thanks to Mr. Walking Pneumonia Man, it ended up being spread out over a week.  But they did a great job.

The Nice Dark Stain After

As you can see, the wood was warped and in rough condition.

After!  It is now a dark hickory color, with a deep sheen!

We are now ready to move on to Phase Two!  Stay tuned; we're hoping to get it done before Christmas.

  1. Love it! Looks great. I have a friend here who has dark ceiling beams in her house and we all think it's one of the coolest things about the place. Why ever would someone paint over it??
