Movie Recommendation: In Time

Things in dawrighthouse have calmed down enough that we could sink into the couches last night and watch a movie - and I'm glad we did.  We watched "In Time," the thriller featuring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried (& also a great supporting cast).  It's set, from what I can tell, in the not-so-distant future and time is the new currency.  There is no money; there is only time.  When babies are born, they are allowed to grow and develop normally until the age of 25, at which point they stop aging.  So, everyone looks approximately 25 years old and can choose to reveal their true age (100, 75, etc.) or not (in the case of females).

Doesn't sound so bad, right?  The catch is when a person turns 25, their internal clock turns on and from that point they only have one year to live.  Everything then becomes about earning more time.  People fight for it, steal it, kill for it.  The price of life is measured in time: Dinner in a nice restaurant might cost you eight weeks, a night in a shady motel might cost you two days, etc.  In certain poor "time zones" people slave away in factories all day, simply to earn one more day.

The premise of the movie is intriguing; we kept thinking it might be based on a book, but I don't know.  The dialogue is lacking just a bit (and gets preachy at times), the plot line has a few holes in it, but the quick pace and nail-biting drama make up for it.  Watching the time run down (or rapidly add up) for the characters will keep you on the edge of your seat.
