Smack Dab in the Mid West

Hola from Omaha!

Today started bright and early so we could get on the road.  We have been in three states today: Colorado, Iowa, and Nebraska.  We are calling this trip our Americana Weekend.

After spending about a million years on the road, we arrived at the Strategic Air and Space Museum outside Omaha.  You can guess whose idea this was.

We spent three days half an hour walking around a hangar and then G turned towards the door.  I perked up, thinking that by some miracle we were leaving, when he mentioned there was a second hangar full of planes.  **sigh**

Then this happened.

Turns out they don't love it when you try to sleep in their seating area.

After that, we headed just a few minutes down the road and across the Missouri River to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where there is a monument to the Lewis & Clark Expedition

When President Jefferson sent them on the quest, one of his main goals was to arrange "councils" with local Indian tribes.  They came across the Oto and Sioux tribes in the bluffs of Iowa, which is why this town is called "Council Bluffs."  Pretty cool, huh?  The hilltop offers a beautiful view of Omaha.

We ended the day with a celebratory dinner in the Old Market section of downtown Omaha.  Our hotel room overlooks the Missouri River - the very one that Lewis and Clark (and about 40 men) canoed down in 1804.  It's so exciting!

More Americana nerdiness tomorrow, loves!  Enjoy your weekend!
