Black Tie

Last night this manager had to put on her extrovert hat and attend a very public, very large black tie function.  I used to plan these, way back in the day in Hawaii, but it's been a while.  And after a long day at work, it's hard for any activity to compete with the thought of laying on the couch and reading Game of Thrones, but I have to say, this was a lot of fun!

After work I had about 30 minutes to get ready.  I have to say, even though it's a tad on the pilgrim-looking side, I was pleased with how the hair turned out!

Is it too Princess Leia?  Awkward shot...

I picked up C and we headed downtown.

The function was an awards ceremony for six key businesses that have made a difference in Denver in the last year.  Two of them were university programs, one was a local, historic trust fund that has benefited the arts, and the rest were start-ups.  Since my job is mainly focused back east, it was refreshing to feel a part of the local Denver community, and to meet new people, and broaden our business scope a bit.

The food wasn't bad either.

Many influential people showed up to support this endeavor, and the Mayor gave the introduction.  You know what, though?  It's so funny, in the midst of all the schmoozing, to see that one of the main sponsors was Coors.  :)  I forget what a big deal that company is here - I'm so used to thinking that it's just out west somewhere.

But now I'm out west somewhere too.
